I pledge...
Today as many others, I start out with an idea in mind. That idea is reinforced by one of the rote observances performed in our schools today in America. Each morning at countless schools throughout this land one after another a child stands to recite the pledge to the flag. Much hyperbole has been addressed in regard to this seemingly innocent statement. I understand the premise of those not wanting to perform the pledge. God is a matter of personal choice. One nation, we are. Indivisible, surely. Under God, but whose god.
For me that would be God in the form of the triune spirit, father and son. Their are others that have different things they worship. How confusing it would be if each one person said, well for example. "One nation, under capitalism, indivisible with..........."
To some capitalism is their god, that is their choice.
My deepest concern is the segment of society that demands we say the pledge seem to forget the last words of the pledge. I think it goes, "with Liberty and Justice for All." Not just some, not just the rich, not just the democrat, not just the republican, not just the Christian, not just the Jew, not just the Catholic, not just the Protestant, not just the traditional, not just the conservative, not just the liberal, not just the straight, not just the Irish Americans, not just the Giants fans, not just the hockey fans, well you get my drift.
The words say, "with Liberty and Justice for All." That means everyone, period.
